In 2014, the Committee for Athletic Student Engagement (CASE) was created and established at CSUN. This committee is made up of a couple of different branches in the CSUN community: The University Corporation, Athletics, Student Housing, Associated Students, Matador Band, and on occasion the CSUN Cheer team. CASE aims to create engagement opportunities for CSUN Student Housing residents at athletic events, all while fulfilling one of CSUN’s Planning Priorities (Using Athletics as a Tool for Engagement).
Spring 2017 Spirit Card
I joined the CASE team in 2016 and have taken on multiple key roles in the production of this team’s events. Using my background in event planning, I jumped in as the coordinator for the Spirit Parades that led to Basketball or Soccer games. From organizing the giveaways, leading the drum line, managing the assistants, to crowd controlling, this role gave me the overall view of the student engagement and enthusiasm with their school’s athletic games.
As the Program and Marketing Assistant for TUC, I switched to the more logistical and behind the scenes side of CASE. This time around, I was the content creator for the marketing photos and materials needed for the athletic Spirit Nights. This allowed me to create and design photo shoots that captured the general idea of these Spirit Nights – in other words, letting the picture speak for itself about the event. In the Spring 2018 season, we created a competition with Student Housing residents to have the highest attendance at a given athletic game for a chance to win an exclusive CSUN t-shirt. That same Spring, CASE was nominated for the Jolene Koester Team Award.
En 2014, se creó y estableció el Comité para la Participación Atlética de los Estudiantes (CASE) en CSUN. Este comité se compone de un par de ramas diferentes en la comunidad de CSUN: TUC, Athletics, Student Housing, Associated Students, Matador Band, y en ocasiones el equipo de CSUN Cheer. CASE tiene como objetivo crear oportunidades de participación para los residentes de CSUN Student Housing con los eventos deportivos y al mismo tiempo cumpliendo una de las prioridades de planificación de CSUN (Uso del atletismo como herramienta para el compromiso).
Tomé parte del equipo de CASE en 2016 y he asumido una variedad de roles claves en la producción de los eventos de este equipo. Usando mi experiencia de planeamiento de eventos, salté como coordinadora de los Spirit Parades que se conducen a los juegos de baloncesto o fútbol. Desde organizar los sorteos, liderar la línea de tambores, dirigir a los asistentes, controlar multitudes de estudiantes, este papel me dio una visión general del entusiasmo de los estudiantes con los deportes de su escuela.
Como asistente de marketing y programación para TUC, me cambié al lado más logístico de CASE. Esta vez, fui la creadora de contenido para las fotos de marketing y los materiales necesarios para los Spirit Nights. Esto me permitió crear y diseñar sesiones fotográficas que capturaron la idea general de estos Spirit Nights; en otras palabras, dejar que la imagen hable por sí misma sobre el evento. En la temporada de la primavera de 2018, creamos una competencia con los residentes de Student Housing en cual la comunidad con la mayor asistencia a un determinado juego atlético podría ganar una camiseta exclusiva de CSUN. Esa misma primavera, CASE fue nominado para el premio de equipo Jolene Koester.
