In the summer of 2014, I received one of my greatest blessings: becoming an intern for the Matiana Mitchell. I had just finished my sophomore year at California Lutheran University and was searching for internships to gain experience in the event planning industry. A former boss of mine referred me to Matiana, which resulted in a breakfast meeting/interview with her at 10 Speed Coffee in Calabasas and me becoming a part of the what was formerly called MAM Events and Designs team (now Dang! Fine Rentals).

Matiana and I instantly clicked with our extroverted and natural go-getter personalities; as she likes to say “I was born outside of the box!”. I had minimal event planning (mainly personal events I had organized) experience before I interned with Matiana, but she gave me the full scope of this industry. From the logistical layouts of sketching floor plans, booking reliable vendors, establishing that intimate connection with the clients, designing installations for the venues…the experience I gained with MAM has easily translated in future events I have planned and designed after my time with the MAM team.

Our creative outlook on life allowed us to elevate events from a social gathering to an experience. Whether it was a wedding or a 30th birthday party, the MAM team was always giving the event that extra touch of glitter and glimmer to make it a memorable night. An aspect that I admired about Matiana was that she was always accepting and allowing me to give my creative input and freedom, so that there was always little part of me was presented in these events. So while this post is a little less technical and a little more storytelling, I thoroughly believe it embodies the valuable skills I gained as an intern for MAM and showcases my talent as an event planner/designer.

En el verano del 2014, recibí una de mis mayores bendiciones: convertirme en pasante de Matiana Mitchell. Acababa de terminar mi segundo año en California Lutheran University y estaba buscando pasantías para ganar experiencia en la industria de planificación de eventos. Una ex jefa mía me recomendó a Matiana, lo que luego resultó en una reunión de desayuno/entrevista con ella en 10 Speed ​​Coffee en Calabasas y yo convirtiéndome en parte del equipo de MAM Events and Designs (ahora Dang! Fine Rentals).

Matiana y yo nos entendíamos instantáneamente con nuestras personalidades extrovertidas; como ella dice: “¡Nací fuera de la caja!”. Antes de ser pasantía de Matiana, yo tuve experiencia mínima de planificación de eventos (primariamente eran eventos personales que organizaba), pero ella me brindó todo el alcance de esta industria. Desde los diseños logísticos de los planes del salon, reservando proveedores confiables, estableciendo esa conexión íntima con los clientes, diseñando instalaciones para los lugares…la experiencia que obtuve con MAM se ha traducido fácilmente en eventos futuros que he planificado y diseñado después de mi tiempo con el equipo de MAM.

Nuestra visión creativa nos permitió elevar los eventos de una reunión social a una experiencia. Fuera una boda o una fiesta de cumpleaños, el equipo de MAM siempre daba al evento ese toque extra de brillo para que fuera una noche memorable. Un aspecto que admiraba de Matiana era que ella siempre aceptaba y me permitía dar mi contribución creativa, así que siempre había una pequeña parte de mí en estos eventos. Aunque este relato es un poco menos técnico y un poco más narrativo, creo firmemente que incorpora las valiosas habilidades que adquirí como pasante para MAM y muestra mi talento como planificadora/diseñadora de eventos.
